Thanksgiving Point Field Trips

Educators, Teachers, Friends!

Welcome! Here at Thanksgiving Point, we strive to provide educational experiences for students, teachers, and families. We have a variety of programs and field trips, all aligned with the state Science Core Curriculum, including the Intended Learning Outcomes, which gives you and your students a one-of-a-kind experience. Please look through our offerings to find what best fits your needs as an educator. We are happy to answer any questions and we will do our best to accommodate you and your students.

Founded in 1995, Thanksgiving Point is a nonprofit farm, garden, and museum complex dedicated to providing children and families with interactive learning experiences. The organization’s museums provide the community with hands-on learning experiences. Each year, more than 1.9 million guests visit Thanksgiving Point and participate in its core programs

The New Face of Field Trips

To better serve the educational community and expand our programs we’ve changed the structure of our field trip offerings. Please see the following details:

Changes to Guided Field Trips: Guided field trips have been replaced by facilitated field trips. In addition to exploring the museum, farm, or garden with chaperones, each class will have a 15-minute activity led by Thanksgiving Point staff. The self-exploration portion will be facilitated by venue staff as well as an education staff facilitator who is available to answer questions, provide support, and help chaperones and students get to the classroom activity at the appropriate time. Teachers will be provided with pre and post-lesson plans and a checklist of items to complete before and after the field trip to help their students get the most from their experience. These materials will be posted online and sent with their contract. Teachers will also be provided with the guidebook for the field trip that will be used by all teachers and adult chaperones in advance so they and their volunteers can be prepared for the experience. Teachers can also make adjustments and connections that will help support the material the students are currently learning in the classroom.

All field trips must be booked at least two weeks in advance. All venue specific field trips are $4 per student. All Career Exploration Experiences are $6 per student. Facilitated field trips, like the guided field trips, on location require a minimum charge of $75 per group, per day; Self-guided field trips do not. Most “facilitated” field trips can be modified for a “self-guided” experience. Ask for details when registering.

One adult chaperone for every 4 children is free of charge. (*except Mammoth Screen Movie*) This ratio is mandatory for K-6 field trips. All other adults will be charged regular admission. Additional children or siblings are not allowed. Field trip drop-off locations vary with each field trip. Busses may park in designated
areas for each field trip. Areas will be mapped out in the packet the teacher receives for the field trip.
